Napoleans Dance Grooves

Well I was lucky to find a 12'' record with ALLLLLLL the best vocal samples from the film as well as the cheesy synthed out music. I recorded an hour long nu-skool breakbeat mix on my turntables at the start and end of the mix I throw in some samples here and there. Anyone who wants this new demo cd of mine can get one. Im going to rip it to an mp3 and hopefully get it uploaded to an FTP or some place where people can download it, but for the time being, I can email the mp3 to you. If anyone wants to listen to it (its really groovy!) just hook me up your email or contact info and ill get a copy to ya! Cheers!

Outdoor Napolean Screening on the 17th

If you are in the bay area, check out film night in the park on June 17th @ 8:30pm for a ND showing.

I've always had a great time at these events. Get there at LEAST 30 minutes early, bring blankets & pack some food & drinks. The cops overlook public beer and wine offenses generally at this event.

bringing a "sweet" line of action figures based on characters from the hit
cult-flick Napoleon Dynamite. The "hilarious" (NY Post) and "wonderfully

with a brand-new line of Napoleon Dynamite figures.
The line will feature an assortment of figures including the film's quirky

• In the wedding scene, which was shot and added after "Napoleon Dynamite" became a hit in theaters, Aaron Ruell improvised his love song to LaFawnduh. "I just freestyled," Ruell said.
• Napoleon's spectacular dance "skit" at the end of the movie was also improvised. "I was a little nervous," said actor Jon Heder in an interview at last year's Sundance festival. "I had only danced in front of a mirror before that, and they only had 10 minutes of film left."
• Pay close attention to the food in the opening credits: Every dish they show is food eaten by a character later in the movie. Watch, of course, for the tots.
• Director Jared Hess' younger brother actually bought a time machine over the Internet.
• The moon boots worn by Napoleon belong to Hess' uncle.
• Tina the llama, portrayed by Dolly the llama, belongs to Hess' mother.
• One of Hess' brothers did call him once, asking him to bring his ChapStick to school because his lips hurt.
• The town of Preston, Idaho, now a tourist destination, is planning a "Napoleon Dynamite" festival, with a tetherball tournament and a steak-throwing contest.
• Dennis Quaid wore a "Vote for Pedro" T-shirt on his most recent appearance on "The Daily Show."
• It is a known fact that bass is, indeed, delicious.

Yes, I am actually kissing Efrim Ramirez, or as we all know him, Pedro.

He came to Austin to do an appearance at the ND viewing at a local movie theatre here called Alamo Drafthouse, where they serve beer and food with your movie. I got his autograph on my "Vote for Pedro" shirt that my friend made for me when I moved from DC, and and autographed pic of him as well as this great pic of me smootching him!

Before the movie started he had a Q&A where peeps asked him things like what other movies he might be in, if him and John Heder are friends, etc. I asked him if he would marry me, he responded by going into the Pedro character and saying, "I think I may be getting a little hot (you know how he says the word hot...)" It was super funny, and then they had a look alike contest, where this guy that looked exactly like Kip won, and they had a dance contest where whoever imitated the ND dance would win a cake that Pedro 'built.' And Efrim Ramirez actually did make the cake earlier that day.

Twas a grand evening, and Pedro made all of my wildest dreams come true, just as he had promised!

Time Anomalies

Hey, have you guys noticed that everyone in the movie is living in a time warp? The movie just seems like it's filled with anachronisms. At first it seems like they are living in the early '80s, but then you notice things. Like, why does everyone dress and decorate their houses like that era when Napoleon's brother, Kip, is using the Internet? AND he is on rollerblades (didn't come out in the '80s) while Napoleon is wheeling him into town with an old '80s-looking bicycle. Why does Napoleon wear moonboots, Deb wear her ponytails on the side of her head, Summer bribe people with Bonnybell products, and Alphaville's "Forever Young" play at the school dance when Napoleon's school ID says it's 2004?!!!

Then the music starts to get a little more modern toward the end of the film with Jamiroquai's "Canned Heat" and N*Sync's "Larger Than Life." Then they revert back to the '80s again with When in Rome's "A Promise."

So are these people just retro-cool or what? The whole damned town out in the middle of nowhere is kickin' it old skool with a New York sense of irony? Hmm, I don't think so.

I really like how the director throws in so many subtle details that really make you think about time and place...and make you go "Wait a minute?!"
